A Bit About Me
My mission is to create pockets of paradise that are not only functional and practical but those that take ones breath away and create strong emotions of peace, tranquility, satisfaction and wonder.

When I witness a person take in a deep breath, relax and shed their stress and concerns when they enter one of my gardens, I know that my job is done.

CNC engraving and cutting is my winter passion and the sky's the limit when it comes to what my snazzy machines and tooling can achieve.
My Backstory
Childhood
I was born in the Yorkshire Dales in the '70's and shortly after immigrated to South Africa where I was fortunate enough to grow up on a sizeable farm.
My grandmother was an obsessive gardener with a food forest as a back yard and vibrant front garden that was any child's ultimate adventure playground. Here I was introduced to a multitude of creatures and kritters and taught about pests, diseases, cures and the natural elements.
Back on our farm I'd lose myself for hours exploring copses, valleys, cracks and crevices and observing nature all around me. I began collecting seeds and taking cuttings of the plants I liked and soon had my own little nursery bursting at its seems.
In my teens I stumbled opon a video on Permaculture with Bill Mollison and shortly thereafter I turned our orchard and stableyard manure zone into productive food forests - with many challenges and learning curves along the way!
Early Adulthood
As most school-leavers do, I spent a few years travelling the world, exploring cultures and tapography and having many adventures.
In 1998 I co-founded an Adventure Centre called 'Forest Lake' which literally was just that - a lake surrounded by forest, operating on the Outward Bound philosophy. It didn't take long for me to want to teach our visiting school children about the fundamentals and intricacies of nature and soon 'Clan Wetlands Environmental Centre' was born.
Here we rehabilitated a wetland and transformed a weedy neglected wattle, eucalyptus and pine plantation into an indigenous paradise. We also embarked on other studies and projects in the broader environment - mostly linking to the Permaculture movement and off-grid closed-loop systems. We also began our own plant nursery and were soon supplying landscapers and garden centres with our plants.
Landscaping
After meeting the man of my dreams, I moved on and decided that not only did I want to propogate my own plants, but I really passionately wanted to design the spaces for these plants to live and thrive. After witnessing the impact that nature has on children, I also wanted to create pockets of paradise tailored to families so that they could appreciate nature and bask in its tranquillity in their very own back yard.
I soon achieved a Diploma in Garden Design and my initial business, Horticultrix, was born at the start of 2007.
I've since created gardens big and small, elaborate and simple, from conifer gardens and zen zones to Permaculture off-grid homesteads.
I love to experiment, to be challenged and to constantly be learning, growing and transforming.
